Rinonorm - instructions for use during pregnancy. Is it possible to use Rinonorm during pregnancy?

What doctors say about this medicine: reviews

Most doctors say that the drug "Rinonorm" cannot be taken during pregnancy. The product contains xylometazaline. This substance is the main active ingredient. It helps to narrow the blood vessels in the nasal passages and makes breathing easier.

Is it possible to take Rinonorm during pregnancy? Doctors say that the drug can constrict blood vessels not only in the sinuses. It has exactly the same effect on the arteries of the placenta. The consequence is a decrease in the intensity of blood circulation and the supply of nutrients to the fetus.

Today, on your recommendation, I turned to an ENT specialist, after an examination

Today, on your recommendation, I turned to an ENT specialist, after an examination, he advised me to use OTRIVIN for children, drop it 3 times a day. I tried to instill Salin, but it doesn’t help me. What should I do next? I’m afraid of harming the child and I can’t do it without drops.

try to at least reduce the frequency of using drops. Also periodically (maybe every 1-1.5 times) massage the skin on both sides of the nose with your index fingers. Stimulation of these points has an effect similar to the effect of drops.

answers: MedCollegia Polismed Anastasia I was on the site April 9, 10:42 Russia, Novy Urengoy

When I was pregnant with my daughter, which was 12 years ago)) I also started having a stuffy nose, suffocating, the whole pregnancy on drops, the doctors said it was an allergy to the fetus, but after giving birth I went back to the doctor and they gave me a blockade, this is a medicine that is administered with an insulin syringe under the mucous membrane of the nose, it hurt terribly, but it was worth it, it was enough for seven years, then periodically this congestion appeared again, but now it’s all happening again, but I’m not pregnant yet, we’re working on it)))) so we need to go and do it again this procedure

  • Yulia April 17, 2012 I can recommend Nasonex drops to Alina, a 14-week-old girl. I myself went through withdrawal from Naphthyzin. Only these drops helped. I don’t know if they can be taken during pregnancy. Find out about them
  • Alina 14 weeks April 7, 2012 Hello girls!!! I’m coming to you for advice, I’ve been addicted to naphthyzine for 13 years now, plus I’m an allergy sufferer and I take liters of it, but after pregnancy the drops stopped helping me, I decided to quit, so I’ve been breathing for a month without them somehow... My husband too I decided to quit and I’m already breathing quite well... but I can’t sleep or eat... I’ve lost 3.5 kilograms, I’m terribly out of breath at night... I’ve been to a bunch of doctors, but I haven’t received good treatment, I can’t even determine if there’s any improvement it doesn’t come from an allergy or from edema during pregnancy, they say there is such a diagnosis * runny nose in pregnant women * when the nasal mucosa swells and does not allow you to breathe... I myself prescribed phlebodia 600 for edema, I’ve been taking it for the 4th day, but it doesn’t do much good ... Friends nearby are scared that the child may develop hypoxia, I don’t know what to do ahead of the allergy season and swelling that will be even worse, maybe someone had a similar situation, tell me what to do...???? I have no more strength, I’m completely desperate, I’m afraid that I can’t get there...
  • Kate April 1, 2012 Opinions really vary everywhere. An allergist prescribed me Zyrtec (containing ceterizine) - I suffer from a terrible allergy to birch pollen. Although I have not seen a single description of an antiallergenic drug where it would be written that the drug is approved for pregnant women... because... Research, especially on pregnant women, costs a lot of money, and the company will bear serious responsibility for “permitting” admission; in fact, do they really need this? But no one remembered about oxygen starvation of the fetus, when the nose swells and bronchial asthma torments, so you can ruin everyone - both mother and child? By the way, Telfast, which is “allowed” for use here, turns out to be also contraindicated. So, I can’t imagine what to do, I’ll probably reduce the dose to half the recommended dose. And minimize the duration of the course of therapy... I will also install an air conditioner with anti-allergenic filters, and if I lived in Moscow, then I would definitely have a roll-tex mosquito net on the windows - “anti-pollen”, but we don’t have it -(. Good luck everyone, remember that there is those who could not give up smoking in favor of their child... and doctors sympathize with them, because quitting smoking is stressful, and this is harmful... And compared to them, allergy sufferers are simply monsters who deliberately harm children...
  • Zhanna March 14, 2012 How many articles - so many opinions. But why did I like your article the most? The only thing that is not clear is whether pregnant women should take pills for allergies, or should they still tolerate itchy skin if possible (well, if it doesn’t lead to swelling)?
  • Yulia February 21, 2012 I am 18 weeks pregnant. I have been suffering for three long weeks! The nose can’t breathe at all, nothing that the caring doctor prescribed helps. I'm suffocating! Save!
  • Ekaterina January 24, 2012 I would like to hear something about such a drug as Zodak. I’m in the early stages of constant allergies and I can’t live without the drug. I took it about once every three days, now I’m afraid the torment is unbearable, I’m in a panic!
  • Inna December 31, 2011 We also experienced allergies, it’s so annoying, especially when you’re pregnant. I took Polyskorb, the doctor prescribed it for me, thank God it helped, otherwise I would have accidentally killed someone out of my nerves =)
  • Marina November 24, 2011 I am 26 weeks. I have been suffering from allergies throughout my pregnancy. and now for everything (((face itches terribly... swells... in extreme cases I take tablets (the doctor approved Tavegil, she says now it is not prohibited during pregnancy) if it is more or less tolerable, but itches, I dissolve a diphenhydramine tablet in a small amount of water and blot my face, it helps a lot) I just have to endure it a little bit.. I hope there won’t be any other complications... I’m afraid that the allergy will be passed on to my daughter... (
  • Ekaterina November 21, 2011 I’ve been suffering terribly from rhinitis for 5-6 weeks, I’m itching all over, I don’t know what to drink, help
  • On November 8, 2011, at 10 weeks of pregnancy, Nadezhda fell ill with a serious ARVI, she couldn’t breathe at all, I couldn’t buy any homeopathic drops, I spent a lot of money, but nothing helped, it only got worse. The ENT doctor prescribed Rhinonorm spray, which helped, but even before giving birth I was still suffering from pregnancy rhinitis; I was dripping Rhinonorm throughout my pregnancy. My husband said that I was a drug addict, although the doctor said that there was no addiction to it. Immediately after childbirth, not a trace remained of rhenitis. the child was born healthy, without any pathologies. My son is already 2 years old, everything is fine.

Are there exceptions to the rule?

What do the instructions say about using Rinonorm during pregnancy? The annotation states that the product can only be used in exceptional cases and on the recommendation of a doctor. It is also stated that there is no reliable data regarding treatment with Rinonorm during pregnancy.

Doctors say that in some cases you can still use the composition. However, it is necessary to take into account the woman’s health status and the period of fetal development. That is why you should not prescribe such a drug yourself. Before using it, it is important to consult a specialist.

Is Rinostop prescribed to pregnant women?

Instructions for use of the drug Rinostop, the active ingredient of which is xylometazoline, lists pregnancy and lactation as contraindications. Why then do doctors prescribe it?

The thing is that during pregnancy, respiratory tract diseases can develop, in which action or a spray is simply necessary. Therefore, the use of the drug in question is permissible in the absence of contraindications. Children's Rinostop is usually prescribed during pregnancy with a concentration of the active substance of 0.05%.

Use of medication during different periods of pregnancy:

  • The period of the first trimester
    is considered the most important stage in the development of the unborn baby. All organs and systems of the body are formed. Exposure to medications in the 1st trimester is extremely undesirable. During this period, for runny noses, means for irrigating and washing the nasal mucosa based on sea water are prescribed (Humaris, Solin,). They are absolutely harmless.
  • In the second trimester,
    the likelihood of a threat to the unborn child from taking medications is significantly reduced. Therefore, for rhinitis of allergic, bacterial origin and other ENT diseases, the drug in question may be prescribed. During pregnancy, Rinostop in the 2nd trimester is allowed to be used only after a doctor’s prescription. The specialist evaluates the clinical picture, studies the anamnesis to exclude contraindications, consults with a gynecologist and decides on the advisability of using vasoconstrictor drops in complex therapy.
  • The third trimester
    is the final stage of pregnancy. The baby is almost completely formed. All systems and organs are only improving in the last 16 weeks. It is not advisable to use Rinostop drops in the 3rd trimester. Strong corticosteroids have a negative effect on the labor of the uterus.

When is the remedy indicated for expectant mothers?

The drug "Rinonorm" during pregnancy is prescribed only in extreme cases. These include the following:

  • allergic runny nose;
  • viral rhinitis or bacterial;
  • sinusitis of various types;
  • otitis (as a complex therapy);
  • before various interventions in the sinuses and ear organs.

You should not use the drug immediately if one of the listed symptoms occurs. You should first consult with doctors and get permission for such a correction.

Composition and effect of the drug

The active component of the drug is xylometazoline, which belongs to the pharmacological group of alpha-adrenergic agonists. These substances act on special receptors located in the nasal mucosa, which causes a vasoconstrictor and anti-edematous effect.

When used topically, the active substance promotes:

  • narrowing of small blood vessels;
  • reducing redness and swelling of the nasopharyngeal mucosa;
  • reducing the amount of secretion released;
  • restoration of patency of the nasal sinuses and Eustachian tubes.

The drug begins to act within 5–10 minutes, significantly reducing nasal congestion and making breathing easier, and the effect of its use lasts up to 6–10 hours.

The only dosage form of Rinonorm is a spray, which is a clear, colorless liquid. Manufacturers produce two varieties of the drug - the children's version contains 500 mcg of xylometazoline per 1 ml of solution, the concentration of the active substance in the version for adults is increased to 1 mg per 1 ml of medication.

To prevent undesirable consequences for the fetus, doctors often prescribe to pregnant women the children's version of the medication, in which the concentration of the active component is halved. In most cases, this amount of xylometazoline is quite enough to cope with nasal congestion.

Pregnant women are usually prescribed Rinonorm in a pediatric dosage

Rinonorm is currently available only in the form of a dosed spray; Rinonorm does not come in drops.

Medicine "Rinonorm": instructions for use during pregnancy

How should such a medicine be used? If your doctor has prescribed a certain dosage of the drug, you must take it strictly in accordance with the recommendations. Otherwise, the following scheme is used.

In one go, a single spray is made into each nasal passage. In this case, it is possible to repeat the procedure up to three times a day. Many doctors who prescribe Rinonorm during pregnancy recommend using a pediatric dose.

The duration of treatment is selected individually. It all depends on how severe the nasal congestion is in a particular case. If possible, expectant mothers should reduce the number of injections of the drug. For some patients, administering the medication once a day is sufficient. In this case, the evening time is preferably chosen, before going to bed.

How to replace Rinonorm spray

There are many vasoconstrictor drugs, which may be based on different active ingredients. Some of them are presented in the table.

When treating with Otrivin during pregnancy, careful dosage compliance is required.

Sanorin during pregnancy is used only at the discretion of the doctor.

Tizin Xylo can only be used in cases where the benefit to the mother outweighs the harm to the fetus

Can all pregnant women use the medicine?

Like other medications, this product has its contraindications. They must always be taken into account. You should be especially careful about the described cases while expecting a baby.

The medicine should not be taken if you have high blood pressure. This can negatively affect the development of the fetus and cause oxygen starvation. Also, the expectant mother may feel a deterioration in her condition, which is accompanied by headaches, shortness of breath and weakness.

If you are hypersensitive to the components of the drug, you should not use the composition. In this case, you should give preference to an alternative remedy with the same effect. Otherwise, a reaction may occur not only in the pregnant woman, but also in the baby.

For atrophic rhinitis, it is prohibited to use the medicine. In this case, you will not achieve any positive effect, but will only worsen your condition.

Contraindications to the use of Rinonorm during pregnancy

Despite the fact that pregnancy is a serious limitation to the use of Rinonorm spray, a number of other conditions also do not allow the use of the drug. The drug is contraindicated in the following cases:

  • A history of intolerance or allergic reaction to xylometazoline hydrochloride or other components of the spray.
  • For hypertension, since under the influence of the drug an even greater increase in pressure is possible.
  • Atrophic (dry) runny nose. Using the product in this case will not only be ineffective, but will also worsen the condition.
  • Glaucoma (angle-closure form).

How might an expectant mother react to the medicine?

During pregnancy, a woman's body undergoes restructuring. There is an increased load on all organs and systems. Blood volume also increases greatly. If previously the drug did not cause any reactions, now they may well manifest themselves. Side effects include the following:

  • headache and confusion;
  • nausea and vomiting;
  • fatigue and the occurrence of tachycardia;
  • changes in blood pressure levels;
  • dryness, itching and burning in the nasal passages.

With prolonged use of the medicine and exceeding the specified dosage, atrophic rhinitis may develop. At the same time, the expectant mother feels relief while using the medicine and simply cannot do without it.

Indications

Nasal spray is used for the symptomatic treatment of ENT diseases such as:

  • runny nose caused by viruses or bacteria;
  • runny nose of allergic origin;
  • sinusitis (the spray can also be used during exacerbation of chronic inflammation of the nasal sinuses);
  • otitis media (reduces swelling of the mucous membrane of the Eustachian tube);
  • rhinitis during pregnancy, caused by hormonal changes in the woman’s body.

Preparation of the nasopharynx for rhinoscopy is also considered a particular reason for prescribing Rinonorm. The drug relieves redness and swelling, greatly facilitating this diagnostic procedure.

Patient reviews

Expectant mothers say that the product is quite safe. Studies show that the active substance is practically not absorbed into the blood. That is why the likelihood of its effect on the fetus is very small. This cannot be said about other drugs with a similar composition. The packaging also states that the product does not contain preservatives. That is why its shelf life after opening is quite short.

Doctors prefer not to prescribe such medications while pregnant. However, there are situations when this becomes inevitable. In this case, it is preferable to use the “Rinonorm” composition. The medicine quickly acts on the nasal mucosa and relieves swelling. There is also an immediate constriction of blood vessels and easier breathing. The positive effect becomes noticeable within a few seconds after the first injection.

Expectant mothers also talk about the ease of use of the spray. You no longer have to dose the drug and tilt your head back too much to administer the solution. Simply insert the spray into the nostril and press the plunger. The drug will be evenly sprayed over the mucous membranes and will not flow down.

Reviews of women who used Rinonorm while expecting a baby

The ENT gave me permission too, but said no more than 5 days, like all drops. But we, pregnant women, are dripping all the time)

For a short period of up to 5 days, the doctor allowed me to do anything, but not longer. And there probably aren’t any for constant use. Aquamaris and others like that don’t help me at all either. I repeat, I endured it and did not drip, although the congestion was terrible.

Nothing gentle can penetrate my nose, it was impossible to breathe, so I sinned and have been sinning with drops for a month now. First Rinonorm spray, now Galazolin. Pinosol, Grippferon didn’t help me with congestion at all... I’m generally silent about soda and Aqua Marisa.

https://38mama.ru/forum/index.php?topic=44957.25

I purchased the “Rinonorm” anti-runny nose spray during pregnancy, when in the eighth month I caught a cold, and not just a cold, but fell into bed with a temperature of 39, a cough and a runny nose. I treated myself, and quite quickly I managed to get back on my feet. One thing is bad, the runny nose was not going to leave me. When I felt better, I finally made it to the doctor, and when he found out that I was pregnant, he prescribed Aqua Maris for me. I went to the pharmacy to get the miracle water, but as soon as I saw its price, my eyes widened. I didn’t want to pay a huge amount for some nasal drops, and without further ado, I bought the regular Rinonorm spray at a more than low price. The effect of this spray is immediate, within a minute you feel significant relief, your nose can breathe again!!! True, you feel dry and it seems that you are breathing hot air, this spray dries out the mucous membranes so much. But the effect is long lasting, I could sleep peacefully through the night using Rinonorm. Now about the side effects that this magical remedy also has, alas! Using Rinonorm prolonged my runny nose for more than a month... The spray became addictive, and the runny nose became chronic. I was no longer sick, but my nose was constantly stuffy, and only Rinonorm relieved this stuffiness, and for a certain period of time, and then it all started again... Wanting to make my life easier, I only complicated it!

From 13 to 40 weeks I was on Rinonorma (somehow I don’t believe the horror stories that it’s supposedly dangerous, it’s more important to breathe!). It went away after giving birth, but a year later it started again, I went to an ENT specialist and had my allergies treated (this is considered allergic rhinitis) while we are still alive.

Pharmacodynamics and pharmacokinetics

This nasal spray is actively used for topical use in the practice of ENT doctors. Since the xylometazoline contained in the drops is an alpha-adrenergic agonist, this active compound helps to constrict arterioles, which has a beneficial effect on the nasopharyngeal mucosa by reducing swelling and eliminating hyperemia.

Rinonorm helps reduce the amount of secretions released in the nasopharynx within a few seconds after topical application. The medicinal effect of the drops lasts for several more hours. The medicine restores the patency of the nasal passages, Eustachian tubes, and also the openings of the sinuses.

Under the influence of nasal drops, the well-being of patients significantly improves by restoring the air patency of the nasopharynx, and also reduces the likelihood of developing complications that inevitably arise with prolonged stagnation of secretions.

Side effects

Unpleasant phenomena may occur after violating the recommendations regarding the dosage and duration of use of Rinostop drops. Vasoconstrictor drugs are usually prescribed for up to 3 days. But if necessary, you can extend it up to 5 days. Also, side effects develop against the background of contraindications.

Consider these signs:

  • feeling of dryness of the nasopharyngeal mucosa;
  • itching, burning;
  • increased nasal congestion and runny nose.
  • Sneezing.

Clinical studies have shown that in rare cases, long-term treatment during pregnancy with Rinostop drops led to the development of the following symptoms:

  • A sharp expansion of blood vessels was recorded on the mucous membrane of the nasal passages. As a result, severe swelling, mucus production, and difficulty breathing developed.
  • Depressive states were also noted in patients who did not stop taking the drug for a long time.

Instructions and dosage

It is especially important to use Rinostop in the form of a spray or drops correctly during pregnancy in order to minimize the risk of complications. The instructions for use warn of dangers when increasing the dosage and duration of treatment.

  1. Before using the drug, the nasal passages must be rinsed with saline solution (1 tablespoon per 0.5 liter of water) or a ready-made pharmaceutical product.
  2. When administering the medicine, the head is slightly tilted back or held straight. Pregnant women are recommended to use children's Rinostop 1-2 drops in each nasal passage no more than 3 times a day. If the drug is in the form of a spray or aerosol, then 1 injection.

The maximum vasoconstrictor effect is achieved half an hour after using the medicine. It should last 5–6 hours.

Please note that the drug is addictive. Therefore, it is not recommended to use it for more than 3 days.

Contraindications

Xylen is prohibited at any stage of gestation for women who have:

  • individual intolerance to the drug;
  • hypertension or frequent surges in blood pressure;
  • increased intraocular pressure;
  • tachycardia;
  • severe atherosclerosis;
  • glaucoma;
  • atrophic rhinitis;
  • hyperthyroidism;
  • surgical interventions on the meninges (history).

Attention! The drug is used with extreme caution for diabetes mellitus.
