How to deal with tantrums in a 2 year old child?

Hysteria in a 2 year old child

Tearful sobs, convulsive twitching of the arms and heartbreaking screams with demands “buy... I won’t... I want...” are signs of a transitional period in the life of a two-year-old baby, called the “crisis period.”

Most mothers are concerned about the strange actions of their toddler, and some believe that hysteria in a child at 2 years old is a sign of a terrible mental illness. Actually this is not true.

Children at the age of two begin to form certain principles and criteria for their personal “I”. Kids try to distinguish themselves in front of their peers, parents, and even complete strangers, throwing tantrums in the most inappropriate places, for example, in a clinic or right on the street.

Showing their independence in front of others, they record in their memory the response of the “spectators”, remember it and begin to build in their heads certain boundaries of permissibility. If adults constantly indulge the absurd whims of their children, then children remember these actions as “normal” for achieving their goals. “You can’t” - then I will cry and still get what I want - becomes the “motto” of the daily life of little crumbs. And hysterics in such families will be regular.

To help children correctly form their desires and at the same time lend a helping hand to poor, exhausted parents, you need to understand the reasons for the “torture” of the nervous system.

Possible causes of hysteria at 2 years old and what is the danger

From the age of 2, children often display negative emotions when their demands are not met. Each hysteria has its own objective reasons and, having understood them, it is important to be able to help the child cope with this negative situation and prevent whims in the future.

The main factors provoking whims and severe crying:

  1. The kid realizes his powerlessness in the current situation. At 2 years old, he already understands that he is not subject to the actions of adults, and he cannot get everything he wants - this is what leads to sudden mood swings with severe crying.
  2. Insufficient vocabulary.

    Causes of hysteria
At this age, babies, as a rule, still speak poorly and cannot express their desires or what they feel, so they begin to get irritated and cry.

  3. Another reason is the underdevelopment of the nervous system, which cannot cope with all emotions and impressions.
  4. Physiological reasons - hunger, thirst, desire to go to the toilet or wet pants.
  5. A large number of impressions during the day can lead to overstrain of the nervous system and to evening hysteria.
  6. Drawing attention to yourself.
  7. Manipulation. Important! Children should not be allowed to understand that with the help of tears they can get whatever they want.
  8. Imitation of parents. If a baby constantly hears quarrels and scandals, he copies the behavior of adults.
  9. Excessive custody and constant parental control. The child shows his protest to this behavior of the parents with hysterics.
