Treatment of giardiasis in adults. Treatment of giardiasis in adults at home with folk remedies

Chronic giardiasis

The clinical expression of invasion has acute and chronic forms. Giardia in adults survives an incubation period of up to 25 days, then 9 days after infection the parasites are released. At the same time, there are no special signs of infection, the patient’s health is normal, and the body temperature is stable.

Chronic giardiasis in an adult is an expected transition to an acute form in the absence of treatment. Characteristic features are periodic occurrence of relapses. Chronic giardiasis in adults is aggravated by bloating, pain symptoms in the epigastric region, and loose stools.

Important! The course of the disease does not always cause concern, but complications in the form of secondary intestinal fermentopathy make one think about treatment. Giardia in humans causes a change in the intestinal microbiocenosis, which provokes the spread of the microbe staphylococcus, fungus, and the liver enlarges. Structural changes in internal organs, mucous membranes, and decreased immunity increase the risk of infection with systemic infectious pathologies that require long-term and expensive therapy.

Routes of infection

There are three ways to become infected with Giardia:

  1. Water. Drinking untreated tap water, swimming in dirty, open water.
  2. Contact and household. This type of parasite remains viable for a long time in an inactive form. Giardia settles on household items, toys, and is carried by animals and people.
  3. Food. The source is unwashed or poorly washed fruits, vegetables, and berries without heat treatment.

The portal of infection is considered to be the upper intestine. The infectious dose is from 100 Giardia cysts, however, in most infected patients there are no symptoms of pathology. In the vegetative form, cysts can be localized only in the upper parts of the small intestine. Giardia does not colonize in the bile ducts; bile kills them. Developed parasites cause changes in the mucous membranes at the site of attachment, and can have reflex effects on tissues.

Important! Flies are carriers of infection, so you should protect the room from insects as much as possible. The development of parasites in the body is dynamic, colonies of cysts fill the intestinal sections in the shortest possible time, intestinal giardiasis appears, and if left untreated, Giardia cysts appear in the liver and other internal organs.

What are Giardia?

In order to get rid of parasites, you need to know everything about them: how you can become infected, where they live, how they reproduce. To begin with, it is worth noting that the main distributor of Giardia is the person himself. Giardia in an unfavorable environment becomes covered with an inaccessible membrane and becomes cysts; they can remain viable for up to 3 months.

If hygiene standards are not observed, through dirty hands, through dirty towels, food, household items, as well as through the consumption of unwashed vegetables and fruits, unboiled water, cysts penetrate into the human body.

It is important! Everyone needs to know that animals other than humans are considered carriers of parasites: mice, cats, dogs, since the cysts cling to their fur.

They enter the stomach, from there into the intestines, then attach to the villi located on the walls with their flagella and begin their reproduction. With an increase in their number, no noticeable poisoning of the body occurs, they do not particularly destroy the walls of blood vessels, only sometimes ulcers appear. But when they decay, dead parasites release toxins that enter the blood. As a result, anemia, allergic manifestations, inflammatory diseases of blood vessels, the gastrointestinal tract and damage to the nervous system occur.

It is important! Attaching to the intestines, Giardia feeds on all substances beneficial to humans: vitamins, amino acids, fats and microelements, weakening the body.

Symptoms of giardiasis

Symptoms of giardiasis depend on the localization of the parasites in the host’s body and the duration of damage to internal organs. Sometimes it happens that the patient remains only a carrier, while signs of giardiasis in adults do not appear. But in any favorable case, cysts begin to develop, massive lesions are manifested by the following factors:

  1. Cholecystitis, biliary dyskinesia;
  2. Enteritis, duodenitis, enterocolitis;
  3. Allergic reactions on the skin, cough, bronchitis, asthma;
  4. Depressive states manifest themselves due to massive depression of the human central nervous system by toxic secretions of parasites.

Important! Often the symptoms of giardiasis in adults resemble vegetative-vascular dystonia. If this diagnosis is made, it is necessary to be examined for the presence of Giardia.

When considering the symptoms of giardiasis, you should add such signs as:

  • Decreased appetite and, as a result, sudden weight loss;
  • Nausea, vomiting, dyspepsia;
  • Increased rumbling in the stomach, bloating, sometimes sharp pain in the gastrointestinal tract;
  • Heartburn, belching;
  • Pain in the right hypochondrium;
  • Increased swelling, high sweating;
  • Excessive pallor of the skin, sometimes dryness, flaking of the skin;
  • General state of fatigue, sleep disturbance;
  • Nervous tics, depression, breakdowns.

Manifestations of the pathology can be supplemented by migraines, severe cheilitis of the lips with jams, cracks and peeling around the oral area.

Important! If a diagnosis of chronic giardiasis is made, treatment should be prescribed taking into account the existing diseases. Parasites provoke an exacerbation of all the patient’s diseases, and also increase the risk of seasonal colds, acute respiratory viral infections and other infectious diseases.

Interesting Facts

Some experts have nicknamed this disease “the parasite of sadness and melancholy.” The fact is that sometimes giardiasis is accompanied by decreased mood, irritability and tearfulness. In some cases, “multi-colored skin” is observed during the disease. We are talking about uneven coloring of different parts of the body. This also applies to the jaundice due to cholestasis. In the presence of this disease, phenomena such as chapped lips and dry skin are very often observed. This occurs in many patients. In addition, the red border of the lips becomes chapped very quickly. Also, “jams” and cracks may appear on it.

Treatment of giardiasis in adults

The treatment regimen for giardiasis in adults involves three stages, and you should not immediately start taking toxic antiparasitic drugs. This can lead to increased allergic reactions and exacerbation of the form of giardiasis. Treatment for lamblia in adults begins with preparing the body.

What causes worms to appear in a person?

  1. The first stage involves removing endotoxicosis, increasing the enzymatic activity of the intestines, and strengthening the body's defenses. Therapy lasts up to 4 weeks and involves following a diet. Destination:
  • choleretic drugs to reduce bile stagnation in the affected organ, reduce inflammatory foci;
  • Cholespasmolytics to relax the biliary tract;
  • tubage for cleansing the bile ducts, intestines, gallbladder;
  • sorbents, energy sorbents for removing toxins from the body;
  • enzymes that restore normal intestinal functionality.
  1. The second stage is antiparasitic treatment. Therapy involves the use of strong medications: Trichopolum, Tinidazole, Macmiror and other drugs prescribed only by a specialist.

Important! The second stage of treatment should be repeated. Therapy is carried out after 7-10 days; in advanced cases, multiple repetitions of anti-giardiasis therapy are allowed, but with the same (7-10 days) interval and only according to the preliminary assessment of a specialist. The treating doctor can choose what and how to poison Giardia; the symptoms and treatment of each repeated stage of therapy may vary.

  1. The final stage is to restore normal intestinal functionality, increase immunity and create conditions that prevent the proliferation of cysts in the intestines, gall bladder, and liver. Destination:
  • diet therapy with the inclusion of pureed vegetables, fruits, and fermented milk products;
  • decoctions and tinctures of herbs, for example, a decoction of birch buds and bearberry seeds;
  • bacterial preparations to eliminate dysbiosis and prevent secondary intestinal fermentology;
  • enzymatic preparations.

Important! Despite the favorable prognosis, relapses are possible. Therefore, long-term monitoring of the effectiveness of treatment is recommended.

Treatment of giardiasis with folk remedies

Herbs, tree bark, flowers and plant fruits are well suited for healing from Giardia. Folk remedies are also used as prescribed by a doctor; self-medication is dangerous to the patient’s health. How to get rid of Giardia using folk remedies:

  1. Acute giardiasis. Place spicy cloves and sunflower oil in a 1:1 ratio in a dark glass bottle and place in a dark, cool place for 10 days (not in the refrigerator). Take 40 ml for 14 days immediately after sleep.
  2. Chronic giardiasis. Mix three drops of bergamot essential oil in 1 tbsp. l. honey and eat on an empty stomach. For 1 tbsp. take 1 liter of water and boil dandelion roots in a water bath for 15 minutes. Strain the broth, add 1 tbsp. boiled water and drink 0.3 tbsp. three times a day before meals for 14 days.
  3. Intestinal giardiasis. Grate horseradish and beets, combine vegetables in a 1:1 ratio, pour in vegetable oil, leave for 3 hours and take 1 tbsp. l. on an empty stomach before meals. In this way, cysts in the blood are eradicated and the intestines are completely cleansed.
  4. How to treat Giardia in adults in the liver? Pour a glass of oat straw into a liter of water and cook in a water bath without boiling for 2 hours. Strain the broth and drink a glass throughout the day. Therapy lasts at least 14 days.
  5. Appendicular giardiasis is treated by mixing dandelion flowers, celandine, fennel, corn silk - a total volume of 1/3 cup. Pour a glass of boiling water and simmer over low heat for 10 minutes. Drink the entire volume of the strained broth during the day. Course 14 days.
  6. Garlic helps well against Giardia. You need to take 250 gr. cloves and pass them through a press. Pour the slurry into 1 liter of vodka without additives, leave for 10 days in a dark place and drink 20 grams. before meals.
  7. Honey with plantain helps remove Giardia. For 1 tbsp. fresh leaves passed through a meat grinder yield an equal amount of honey (equal to the volume of the resulting gruel). Mix and take 1 tbsp. l. before meals three times a day. Treatment 30 days.
  8. Tansy for giardiasis is taken in the form of a decoction: 30 g. pour half a liter of water over the flowers, leave for 2 hours and drink 0.5 cups three times a day before meals.

Important! Treatment of Giardia with folk remedies is unacceptable without the prior recommendation of a specialist. Only a doctor diagnoses the pathology, collecting tests, identifying the presence of cysts in the stool, and determining how to treat giardiasis in adults. Complex forms of the disease manifest themselves on the skin in the form of dermatitis, which requires the use of antihistamines.

Diet for giardiasis

When determining how to cure the pathology, the specialist recommends following a diet. At the first stage, you should not take foods high in simple carbohydrates: cereals, dairy products, pasta, sausages. Complex carbohydrate foods are allowed in the form of water-based porridges, fermented milk products, vegetables, and fruits.

Prohibited for use:

  • alcohol;
  • baked goods, confectionery products;
  • hot spices;
  • canned food;
  • smoked meat, sausages, dried meat and fish;
  • fried foods.

Restrictions apply to fresh vegetables and fruits - the quantity should not be excessive so as not to provoke flatulence. You can eat lean meats, poultry, fermented milk products, rice and buckwheat in the form of porridges with water. It is very good to include dried fruits, sour vegetables, citrus fruits, fruit drinks and herbal tinctures in your diet. Food should be taken in small portions up to 5 times a day, it is advisable to drink a sour drink before meals.

Prevention of giardiasis - hygiene. Prevention of infection, a menu of light dishes and consultation with a specialist are the main parameters for complete recovery from pathology.

Diagnosis of pathology

In this case, it is necessary to study stool analysis. The diagnosis is confirmed if Giardia cysts were found in the biological material. At this stage, one important point should be taken into account: cysts are not found in feces in all cases. Sometimes they may be absent there for twenty days. After this, the parasites appear in the stool for a short period of time and then disappear again. This cycle repeats itself constantly. Thus, it is necessary to submit stool for examination once a week for a month.
