Is it possible to use the antibiotic Ceftriaxone in injections during pregnancy?
Ceftriaxone is a first-line drug for the treatment of any inflammatory pathologies. Its use during pregnancy allows you to quickly get rid of not only the signs of the disease, but also the microorganism that provoked it. The good bioavailability of the drug and its ability to act exclusively on the site of bacterial accumulation allow its safe use during pregnancy.
1st trimester
In the first trimester of pregnancy, the placenta is not yet able to protect the fetus from the negative effects of toxins, which is why this period is the most dangerous. If possible, it is better for a pregnant woman to avoid using any drugs of synthetic origin. The use of antibiotics, including Ceftriaxone, before the 12th week of pregnancy is indicated only if the infection threatens the life and health of the mother and fetus. A pregnant woman is given intramuscular or intravenous injections for 6-7, less often 20 days. The standard medicinal dose is 0.25-2 ha 1-2 ml of liquid for dissolution (Lidocaine, Novocaine, saline solution).
2nd trimester
In the second trimester of pregnancy, the use of antibiotics is safer. The placenta barrier already exists and only a few drugs are able to penetrate it. There is no evidence that ceftriaxone has this ability. They treat sore throat and pyelonephritis. The medicine is used in the dose recommended by the specialist. An overdose leads to intoxication of the mother and fetus. The dosage remains the same as described above.
3rd trimester and during lactation
In the third trimester of pregnancy, treatment with antibiotics is just as dangerous as in the first. Childbirth is approaching and the use of Ceftriaxone at this time has a negative effect on them.
The drug is used only when there is no other choice. It does not slow down or speed up labor, but this possibility should not be ruled out.

Contraindications
Ceftriaxone is not prescribed in case of known hypersensitivity to cephalosporin antibiotics or auxiliary components of the drug.
Relative contraindications:
- the neonatal period if the child has hyperbilirubinemia ;
- prematurity;
- renal/liver failure;
- enteritis , UC or colitis associated with the use of antibacterial agents ;
- pregnancy;
- lactation.
Excretion from the body
Being a semi-synthetic antibiotic, Ceftriaxone completely penetrates the body. It is released after 48 hours. The rate of drug excretion by the kidneys depends on the dose chosen, duration of treatment and age. Residual signs of the presence of antibiotic in the blood can be observed over the next 8 days.
Ceftriaxone is an anti-inflammatory drug with a wide spectrum of effects. Its use during pregnancy is indicated in cases where the infection threatens the health of the mother and the proper formation of the fetus. - allergic reactions - rashes on the skin like urticaria, itching, increased or decreased body temperature, bronchial obstruction, exudative erythema, anaphylactic shock, serum sickness, eosinophilia;
- from the gastrointestinal tract - nausea, vomiting, bloating, dysbacteriosis, diarrhea, constipation, stomatitis, changes in taste;
- from the hematopoietic organs - iron deficiency anemia, leukocytosis, leukopenia, granulocytopenia, thrombocytosis, thrombocytopenia;
- systemic side effects - migraine, dizziness, nasal bleeding, superinfection, pain in the veins of the lower extremities, phlebitis, pain and the appearance of infiltration at the injection site.
Despite the fact that the use of Ceftriaxone is undesirable both in the first and 37th week of pregnancy, there are situations in which it is impossible to do without this drug. The drug can cope with a wide range of diseases, and therefore prevent the development of complications that arise against the background of a long-term infectious and inflammatory process in a woman’s body.
